In a heartfelt effort to support the next generation’s connection to Korean language, culture, and identity, Korean Americans in Northern California came together for a fundraising golf tournament hosted by the Korean Schools of Northern California (KSNC).

The charity event took place on July 5 at Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville, drawing more than 80 Korean American participants despite it being a weekday. The tournament aimed to raise operational funds for KSNC, which supports Korean language education and cultural programs throughout the region.

Following the tournament, attendees gathered for a banquet and awards ceremony. KSNC President Mijun Lee(이미전) expressed her deep gratitude to all participants, stating, “Thanks to your generous support, we will be able to further strengthen our programs to help the second generation not only learn Korean but also build a strong sense of Korean identity.”

Jonathan H. Kim(김한일), President of the San Francisco Bay Area Korea Center and chair of the tournament, also thanked the attendees, adding, “I believe the teachers and staff working at our Korean schools are true heroes. Their dedication ensures that our children can grow up proud of their heritage and continue our cultural legacy.”

He also noted the special significance of this year, marking the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation. “We will celebrate this historic occasion with a Liberation Day event on August 16 at San Francisco City Hall, and we encourage all Korean Americans to attend,” he announced.

During the awards ceremony, trophies and prizes were presented to top performers. Lydia Kim earned the title of medalist, also contributing as a sponsor. Moses Jung and Eun-Kyung Oh were named men’s and women’s champions, respectively. Additional awards went to Joonie Park (closest-to-the-pin), and Changsun Lee (men’s longest drive), and Sunny Lee (women’s longest drive).

In a spontaneous moment, senior division winners also received $400 worth of health supplements sponsored by Jung Kwan Jang(정관장). Attendees enjoyed a raffle with a wide range of prizes, including a golf bag won by Kyungsoo Choi, President of the Korean American Senior Citizens Association of Santa Clara, who then generously donated it back for auction. Proceeds from the auction also contributed to the fundraising effort.

KSNC announced that the funds raised will support various programs including Korean essay contests, drawing competitions, storytelling contests, and more, all aimed at promoting Korean language education and cultural identity.
