The presentation ceremony for the Presidential Commendation from the Chair of the National Unification Advisory Council was held on March 6 at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco.

Advisory council members Jee Soo Kim, Mi-Jung Park and Kyung-Hwan Kim of the National Unification Advisory Council’s San Francisco Council, who were selected as recipients of the 2025 Chair’s Commendation, attended the ceremony along with Consul General Jung-Taek Lim and Council President Micha Oh.

Prior to the presentation, Consul General Jung-Taek Lim congratulated the award recipients. Lim expressed his appreciation for their long-standing contributions to expanding public understanding and support for peaceful reunification within both the Korean American community and the broader society.

“I sincerely thank you for your dedication over many years in helping build consensus for peaceful reunification across the Korean community and the broader mainstream society,” Lim said. “I hope this recognition will not only honor your individual achievements but also become a source of pride for the entire Korean American community.”

Following the remarks, Lim presented the recipients with certificates of commendation, gifts and bouquets.

The three awardees — Jee Soo Kim, Mi-Jung Park and Kyung-Hwan Kim — have been active members of the San Francisco Council and were recognized for their efforts in strengthening the advisory role of the National Unification Advisory Council. Their work has included policy discussions related to Korean reunification as well as organizing forums, lectures and meetings that encourage broader participation from the community and younger generations.

Micha Oh, president of the National Unification Advisory Council’s San Francisco Council, also attended the ceremony and offered her congratulations to the recipients.

In her remarks, Oh noted that the awards are usually presented at a gathering of all advisory members, but circumstances made that difficult this time. She added that the council will continue to promote the achievements of the recipients and highlight the role and contributions of the council within the community.

The Chair’s Commendation of the National Unification Advisory Council is awarded to active advisory members who have made meaningful contributions to building the foundation for peaceful Korean reunification. Recipients are selected through a comprehensive evaluation process that considers their years of service, record of activities, and the overall impact of their work. The 2025 recipients were chosen following a rigorous review conducted at the national level.
