The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council San Francisco Chapter (President Jum Kyun Choi, hereafter referred to as PUAC-SF) has donated 10 million Korean won (approximately $7,500 USD) to aid recovery efforts in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea, following the recent massive wildfires that caused extensive damage in the region.

According to a press release issued on the 21st, PUAC-SF conducted a fundraising campaign with participation from its members and students from the Junior PUAC program. The funds collected through this campaign were delivered to the Gyeongsangbuk-do provincial government.

The fundraising initiative was unanimously approved during the 21st PUAC Americas Regional Executive Committee Meeting, held in Hawaii on March 28–29. SF PUAC began collecting donations on April 1, and the campaign lasted for two weeks. The donation was personally delivered to Governor Cheol-Woo Lee of Gyeongsangbuk-do by Dong-Young Lee, Director of the International Cooperation Subcommittee of PUAC-SF, who was visiting Korea at the time.

President Jum Kyun Choi stated, “Just as our immigrant ancestors came together to help Korea during times of hardship, PUAC-SF felt compelled to support those affected by this year’s devastating wildfires through a fundraising effort.” He added, “We hope this donation brings hope to those who have lost their homes and contributes to the recovery process.”

President Choi also expressed gratitude to the members and students who participated, saying, “Despite the current economic challenges, I sincerely thank all the advisors and Junior PUAC students who contributed to this meaningful cause after witnessing the largest wildfire damage in Korean history.”
