Jackie Kim, who became the first Korean-American President of the Asian Real Estate Association of America(AREAA) of the San Francisco-Peninsula chapter last year, left office on Feb. 2 after completing her term.

During her tenure as President, Jackie Kim played a significant role in helping Korean Americans advance into mainstream communities such as the AREAA. Thanks to Jackie Kim’s efforts, members of the San Francisco, Peninsula, and Silicon Valley Asian Real Estate Associations participated in the recent inauguration ceremony of the Korean-American Real Estate and Lenders Association(KARL) of Northern California, and the presidents of mainstream societies were able to develop relationships with Korean-Americans.

In addition, Jackie Kim started a scholarship program while serving as President of the AREAA San Francisco Peninsula chapter, which received a great response from members. On Feb. 2, the first scholarship recipients — Madeline Iswaranata, Timothy Dare and Kelly Dare — each presented $2,500 in scholarships.

At the inauguration ceremony held at a banquet hall in San Francisco, President Jackie Kim said, “The members of the Asian Real Estate Association must work together to contribute to the economic development of the local community and to fight discrimination and attacks against Asians.”

President Kim continued, “Together with Rachel Kwong, who is a new president, the executives and directors will work together to create a more prosperous Asian Real Estate Association.”

At the ceremony, a large number of executives of the KARL, including President Soo-Kyung Park(박수경), attended the ceremony and applauded Jackie Kim for stepping over, as well as SF-Seoul Sister Cities Committee Chairman Hae-Geon Choi(최해건), Chief Commissioner Kyung-Hee Kim(김경희) from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Consul General Mi-Ok Yu(유미옥) in charge of civil affairs at the San Francisco Consulate General. Also present was Jackie Kim’s husband, David Kim(김신호), chairman of the San Francisco Korean School.

Prior to his remarks, President Jackie Kim personally presented a certificate of appreciation to all the sponsors who have supported the AREAA SF-Peninsula chapter and also thanked SF-Seoul Sister Cities Chairman Hae-Geon Choi for donating money to the first scholarship project.
