The Korean American Community Foundation of San Francisco (KACF-SF) has opened accepting applications for the 5th ‘Karen Ha(카렌 하)’ Scholarship.
The Karen Ha Scholarship was initiated by donations from bereaved families and KACF-SF supporters to honor the achievements of the late Karen Ha, who established herself as a founding member of KACF-SF. Since selecting scholarship students for the first time in 2019, a total of nine scholarship students have been selected and scholarships have been awarded.
Timothy HyoJun Kim(김효준), Executive of KACF-SF, said, “We are very excited to support the next generation of leaders through the Karen Ha Scholarship,” adding, “From this year, we have simplified the scholarship application and submission documents so that more students can apply casually.”
The 2023 Karen Ha scholarship committee will include Rosa Kim(김현주), Commissioner of Education for Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD), Jane Jung Assistant Principal of Bowditch Middle School, Elise Lee and Julie Son, first Karen Ha Scholars, Jun Moi, an early KACF-SF member, and Daniel Lee, a KACF-SF Junior Board member.
The scholarship committee will select two Karen Ha scholars this year, who will receive scholarships ($2,500 per year, $10,000 for up to four years) and mentoring to help them grow as Korean leaders.
Seung Yeon ‘Amy’ Lee(이승연), Program Manager of KACF-SF, said, “We are honored to support such wonderful Korean students after running the Karen Ha Scholarship Program for the past five years, and this year has been especially meaningful to work with Elise Lee and Julie Son, who were the first scholarship students.”
Manager Seung Yeon ‘Amy’ Lee continued, “As experts from all walks of life, including those currently working in the education field, volunteer their time to participate in their busy schedules, we will proceed with the scholarship program through their valuable opinions.”
The deadline to apply for this year’s scholarship is March 24, and for application methods and application documents, please refer to the KACF-SF website (kacfsf.org/karen-ha-scholarship). Inquiries regarding scholarship applications should be made by email(amy@kacfsf.org).
