Dasom Korean School (Principal Miyoung Choi(최미영)) organized a class to reflect on the lives of Korean businessmen such as Kim Jong Rim(김종림), the great king of rice, who donated his fortune to the construction of Willows Flight School, and Kim Ho(김호) and Kim Hyung Soon(김형순), who raised funds for the independence movement and helped the people in need and to think about the direction of their dreams that second-generation Koreans should have.

Dasom Korean School, located in Sunnyvale, held a class titled ‘Korean American Businessman Who Achieved the Dream of Korean Independence’ on February 18 as part of the ‘Korean Ethnic Studies Class in the Americas,’ which is the main theme of the curriculum for the 2022~2023 school year. In the class, the students studied the lives of Kim Jong Rim, who became rich from rice farming, and Kim Ho and Kim Hyung Soon, who worked for the Kim Brothers’ Association with nectarine.

Teacher Park Eunkyung(박은경) first took time to review the lessons learned in the previous two lectures with quizzes on Dosan Ahn Chang Ho(도산 안창호), Dr. Seo Jae Pil(서재필 박사), Dr. Lee Sung Man(이승만 박사), activist Yoo Gwan Soon(유관순 열사), and Mrs. Susan Ahn(안수산 여사), and then continued the lecture by following the traces of the lives of funny businessmen in four directions: travel, information, theater, and quizzes.

Through videos, presentation materials, and role-plays, the class traced the journey from Dasom Korean School, where the school is located, to Ridley and Willows Flight School, where Korean American businessmen worked, to Los Angeles, where Kim Ho Elementary School was located. The quiz contest and the Yutnori(윷놀이) game followed, and after the quiz competition, the students were given white fried rice as a prize.

Following ‘The Lives and Dreams of Korean Independence Activists’ and ‘Korean Women Leaders Who Shocked the World,’ the lecture was held as a Korean American ethnology class, and students will spend over a month learning in depth with a Korean American businessman worksheet designed for the eyes.

Meanwhile, Dasom Korean School announced that it will hold a ‘Korean American Forum” on April 15. Miyoung Choi, Principal of Dasom Korean School, said, “The Korean American Forum, where we learn about and discuss the lives of Korean pioneers and their dedication, will be an opportunity for second-generation Koreans to think more specifically about their dreams.”
